The City of Farmington Fire-Rescue Department will be holding four recruitment open houses to hire additional paid-on-call firefighters.

“This year we are adding a female open house,” said Fire Chief Justin Elvestad. “This session will be led by our current female firefighters. They will speak about their experiences in the department.”

Those interested can attend one of the following open houses:

  • Female only: March 11, 7 p.m. at Fire Station 2

  • Wednesday, March 24, 7 p.m., Fire Station 2

The open houses provide a glimpse into what working in the Farmington Fire Department is like. In this more informal setting, prospective paid-on-call firefighters will have the chance to tour the fire station, check out the fire trucks and explore the equipment. Current firefighters will be in attendance to answer questions about the job and the department.

“We encourage anyone thinking about this opportunity to bring their spouse along,” said Elvestad. “We want them to attend as well because a position like this affects the whole family.”

No fire-rescue training is required to be considered for a position as a paid-on-call firefighter. All training is done through the department. Firefighters are eligible for a retirement pension and hourly wage.
