[ARCHIVED] A Rambling River Story

RRC Rambling River Story with Bruce and friends participating in SAIL class

Many years ago, Bruce was a passionate basketball coach, effortlessly moving up and down the court. But as the years passed, walking became more difficult. Neuropathy in his feet led to frequent falls—some severe enough to break bones, including his leg and hip. His doctor gave him a tough but necessary order: he had to move to a home without stairs.

Determined to stay independent, Bruce relocated from Spring Lake Park to Farmington to be closer to his son. Ironically, his last fall happened the very day he moved in—almost a year ago! So, what has changed?

The answer: SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life) classes at the Rambling River Center. “SAIL teaches you movements and strengthens muscles you don’t normally use during the day,” Bruce shares. “It has greatly improved my balance.”

Now, with a renewed sense of stability, Bruce is no longer falling—and we couldn’t be happier to have him as part of our community at Rambling River Center!
