Per Minnesota Statutes 412.02, subdivision 2, "Terms of elective officers shall commence on the first Monday in January following the election at which the officer is chosen. All officers chosen and qualified as such shall hold office until their successors qualify."

All Affidavits of Candidacy filed with the City of Farmington are listed above. You may also visit the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office at https://candidates.sos.mn.gov to:
- Perform a Basic Search by State, Federal, or Judicial Office;
- Search by Office Title;
- Search by Office (i.e., State & Federal, County, City/Township, School District, or Hospital District);
- Search by Candidate Name; and
- Download a list of candidate filings.
Candidate Requirements to File for Local Office:
- Must be eligible to vote in Minnesota
- Must be at least 21 years old when assuming office
- Must have maintained residence in the City of Farmington for at least 30 days before the General Election
- Must have no other affidavit on file for any other elected office
- Must pay the $5 filing fee for local election (filing fees vary for other offices)
- Must file an Affidavit of Candidacy form in the Office of the City Clerk
- Must complete and file Campaign Finance Reports
Candidate Filing Dates for 2026: (Minnesota Statute 205.13, subdivision 1a)
- Filing Opens: Tuesday, July 14
- City Hall regular office hours: Monday - Thursday 7 am - 4:30 pm; Friday 7 am - 11 am
- City Hall regular office hours: Monday - Thursday 7 am - 4:30 pm; Friday 7 am - 11 am
- Filing Closes: Tuesday, July 28 at 5 pm
- An Affidavit of Candidacy for local office must be filed in person at Farmington City Hall, 430 Third Street, Farmington, Minnesota
- The filing fee of $5 (cash or check only) is non-refundable (Minnesota Statutes 204B.11)
- The deadline to withdraw from candidacy is 5 pm on Thursday, July 30, and must be filed in person at Farmington City Hall (Minnesota Statutes 205.13, subdivision 6).
