The Farmington Police Department is accepting applications for its first Teen Citizen’s Police Academy that will run from June 17 to July 22.

Participants will meet every Monday at the Farmington Police Department, 19500 Municipal Dr., from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This opportunity is available to Farmington residents and those who attend the Farmington Area School District. Here are the program requirements:

- Must be a high school student or recently graduated, ages 15-18.

- Must have approval from parent or guardian if under the age of 18, sign a consent waiver and pass a criminal background check.

- Must have transportation, some weeks may include an alternate location other than the police department.

- Must commit to the full 6 weeks.

- Must be willing to learn and have fun interacting with Farmington officers.

The Teen Citizen’s Police Academy is a great way for the police department to engage our community members by giving them a glimpse into different areas of our day-to-day operations. In return, the department gets valuable feedback from our applicants and it opens up dialogue weekly through various presentations, speakers and demonstrations. Interested applicants should apply no later than June 10. All applicants will be subject to a criminal background check prior to approval.  For more information or to apply, contact Officer Cassie Redmond at 651-280-6720 or CRedmond@FarmingtonMN.gov
